How to make a quick and easy floral birthday card using Birthday Blooms from Stampin' Up!

StampinByHannah International Blog Highlights All About Flowers

Kylies International Blog Highlight banner

I had so much fun taking part in Kylie’s International Blog Highlight last month, that I knew I just HAD to do it again! This month’s challenge is ‘All About Flowers’ and while I have a small mountain of flower stamps, I have chosen to grab my favourite; Birthday Blooms.

All About Flowers Birthday Card using Birthday Blooms from Stampin' Up! for Kylie Bertucci's internationl blog highlights

I stamped the big bloom in Basic Grey onto Whisper White card stock, then sponged Fresh Fig ink over the bottom left hand corner before die cutting the whole thing using the Stitched Shapes Framelits. I don’t know about you, but I seriously can NOT put these away! They are most definitely one of my most used products in 2017.

Fun Floral Birthday Card using Birthday Blooms from Stampin' Up!

The flower is the main focus of this card, and so I tried to keep the rest of the card pretty simple. I love the hearts boarder stamp, but I can sometimes struggle to actually use it! Here it is stamped in Powder Pink. I stamped the sentiment, and put the card together, but it felt just a little plain. So, I added some Basic Grey splatter with a Stampin’ Write Marker.

I hope that you have enjoyed your visit to StampinByHannah today. Please do take a moment to sign up for my twice weekly inspirational emails, or subscribe to my blog, and I hope to see you again soon

Global Design Project #073 | Crazy About that Watercolour…..

Watercolour Smooshing Hello Card using Crazy About You from Stampin' Up! UK #GDP073

Oh I am so sorry this post is a little late today! I got called into work for night shifts on Sunday and Monday night, and just did not get chance to make my Global Design Project Card yesterday… but its OK, I’ve caught up…. while I wait for the UPS man to deliver my latest goodies from Stampin’ Up! (I LOVE delivery day, don’t you?! It’s like Christmas, and I have some new goodies coming that I cannot wait to share with you!)

Global Design Project Colour Challenge Blog

How fabulous are those colours?! I day dreamed about these colours at work last night, and made this card about 100 times in my head…. I was so pleased when it came out onto paper almost exactly how I dreamed it!

Watercolour Smooshing Hello Card using Crazy About You from Stampin' Up! UK #GDP073

I have taken the three colours; Daffodil Delight, Emerald Envy and Watermelon Wonder and used the watercolour smooshing technique to colour the flower from Birthday Blooms. This technique is so fun! Take your ink pad (or a reinker) and add ink onto a large clear block, add water and then pick up the water / ink mix with a piece of Window Sheet. I think I use a piece of packaging that came with my stamps! and then use this to apply the colour onto the card stock.

Global Design Project #GDP073 Watercolour smooshing how to

To make sure I got the colours in the right place I stamped the flower in a very pale ink (Sahara Sand stamped off once) as a guide, once I had smooshed on the other colours I stamped the flower again in black ink over the top. Now, I would normally use my Stamp-a-ma-jig to ensure that you couldn’t see the original flower, but I can’t find the clear sheet of my stamp-a-ma-jig at the moment…. read; craft office is a disaster zone and I really need to spend this evening cleaning it!

#GDP073 Colour Challenge Watercolour Smooshing technique card using Crazy About You from Stampin' Up! UK

The sentiment is from Crazy About You and the Hello You thinlits (Love these!) and I die cut the Hello 4 times and stacked them together to make this cool dimensional sentiment. The finishing touches to this card were a bit of ink splattering and a trio of black Enamel shapes (that were once Garden Green in colour, but I have coloured them with a permenant marker to make them black… I LOVE them in black!). I have no idea what I was trying to say here, I am aware that the sentiment makes no sense what so ever, I am blaming a lack of sleep for my bad stamping, I mean really…. what was I going for?! lol

So, this is my corrected version!

Watercolour Smooshing Hello Card using Crazy About You from Stampin' Up! UK #GDP073

Happy Birthday Blooms

Birthday Blooms watercoloured birthday card using stampin' Up! uk products

A couple of weeks ago my mum had a very special birthday. Now, I always make my mum a card, but normally it’s just one, but not this year… the day before Mum’s birthday I got a mercy call from Dad asking if I was going into town at any point that day, I said “No, on a Saturday on the retail lead up to Christmas, no thanks!” but I did enquire as to what it was he wanted… a birthday card for Mum because he’d forgotten all about it! Typical man!

Now, I had already made one card, and so turned to Pinterest for some more Birthday inspiration (yes, I know that this was a danagerous thing to do with limited time!) and found this stunning card from Chantel De Kaste from the Netherlands, and took it as a jumping off point.

Watercolour birthday card using Awesomely artistic and birthday blooms from Stampin' Up!

The stamp set that Chantel used has now retired, but I substituted it for Birthday Blooms, which is one of my all time favourites! The flower is stamped in Archival Basic Black onto Thick Whisper White to allow me to watercolour it with Rich Razzleberry ink, so pretty.

Birthday Blooms watercoloured birthday card using stampin' Up! uk products

The background stamping, also in Basic Black, is taken from Awesomely Artistic. I love this stamp set for layering pieces and little details. Once it was stamped I ran it through the Large Polka Dot embossing folder and although you cant really see it on the photos, it just added an extra layer of detail. I have said before how my mum is never very impressed by my creations, and I have to say, this card didn’t get much of a response either. What do you think?

Question of the Day: What’s your favourite stamp set at the moment? I’m loving using Merriest Wishes…. more of that on Friday!

Watercolour Congratulations using Birthday Blooms

Watercolour Congratulations Card using Birthday Blooms from Stampin' Up! UK

Do you remember a few weeks ago I took part in the Simply Sketched Saturday Blog Hop!? Well, one of the lovely ladies that joins us very month is Ania from anna’s stampin’ cave, and she made this fabulous watercoloured card using Birthday Blooms – and I could not pass up the opportunity to CASE it!

Watercolour Congratulations Card using Birthday Blooms from Stampin' Up! UK

I haven’t watercolour-ed properly for ages! and felt really rusty doing this piece, but I am fairly happy with how it turned out. The flower itself is in Mint Macaron, with Emerald Envy leaves and a hint of Crushed Curry, while the background is in Sweet Sugarplum. The dappled effect is created by stamping over the image (once it was dry) using the splatter stamp from Gorgeous Grunge, in Sweet Sugarplum, Crushed Curry and Whisper White. Birthday Blooms Watercolour Congratulations card Stampin' Up! UK

The sentiment was heat embossed onto a strip of Watercolour Paper in white, and the water coloured in Crushed curry.

Fancy Fold Friday

Now, I will admit that this week I am pushing the boundary’s of ‘fancy fold’ but I keep seeing this style of card on Pinterest, and just HAD to give it a go!

Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge – Forever Begins Today

Stampin' Up! UK Birthday Blooms Suite Sayings Wedding Card

Stampin' Up! Sketch ChallengeHello Everyone! So glad you could join us for another week of the Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge! This weeks sketch comes from the lovely Justyna.

Simply Sketched Stampin' Up! Challenge Blog Hop

I love this sketch, it totally pushed me outside of my norm, and allowed me to create something very different for me. I have to admit that I also took inspiration from the ever so talented Teneale Williams for this one, particularly stamping on coloured card stock – definitely something I shall be doing more of!

Stampin' Up! UK Birthday Blooms Suite Sayings Wedding Card

I of course had to turn the sketch this time. I haven’t rotated a sketch for a while – I love taking a sketch and editing it to suit me. So this time I turn it sideways.

I really don’t use a lot of coloured card stock, I buy heaps of Whisper White but a pack of a colour can last me years! This particular colour I didn’t think was one of my favourites, but now I’ve used it in such a big way it is starting to grow on me. Actually I use so little of this colour (Soft Suede) that when I came to stamp I realised I don’t even have the coordinating Ink! Shocking! So to get the tone on tone effect I jumped to another brown, Crumb Cake instead.

I’ve also used Crumb Cake to stamp and watercolour the Bloom in the circle. Can you believe that that is one ink colour?! its super pretty in real life, my camera work just has not done this one justice. The flowers from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack are also sponged in Crumb Cake.

Stampin' Up! UK Sketch Challenge Wedding Card Birthday Blooms Suite Sayings

The only other ink colour I have used here is Early Espresso for the sentiment, taken from Suite Sayings, and perfect to send as a wedding congratulations.

Have you spotted the gold glitter? Its actually a tape! and its currently FREE during Sale-a-bration! Awesome. Remember Sale-a-bration ends on the 31st of March, so don’t wait too long or this beautiful tape may have just already left us. To get this lovely tape for free you just have to spend £45, and the choose the tape as your free gift!

Thanks for stopping by today, and don’t forget to hop along to see what the girls have made with this sketch

Til next time

March Class Card… Dear Friend

Stampin' Up! UK Dear Friend Birthday Blooms

Last week I shared this card designed for my March card making class, and today I have another card to share

Stampin' Up! UK Dear Friend Birthday BloomsThis card was the most simple card of the set. The flower is in Mint Macaron and Blushing Bride, with the stamp coloured using Stampin’ Write Markers. I love this way of stamping, instead of inking your stamp with one of our fabulous ink pads, you colour directly onto the stamp with the brush end of a Stampin’ Write Marker. This means that you can get several different colours in one image, you just need to remember to use the side of the Brush tip (so not to damage it) and to add the lightest colours first.

The card is finished with a piece of the Birthday Bouquet Designer Series Paper and a bow tied from Pool Party Glitter Ribbon

Happiest of Birthday to you….

Stampin' Up! UK Birthday Blooms Card Class Watercolour

Over the next couple of weeks I will be sharing some of the cards I designed for my March Card Class. Registration is now open for my April Card Class – just drop me an email for more info!

Stampin' Up! UK Birthday Blooms Card Class Watercolour

I loved making this card. You all know how many times I have watercoloured this flower from Birthday Blooms, but this was the first time I coloured it in blue, so soft and pretty. I took inspiration for this colour palette directly from the Designer Series Paper, where the flowers are Pool Party and Mint Macaron. I’m a sucker for colour, one of the many reasons I love Stampin’ Up!®. All the colours are gorgeous and work so well together, even when you might look at them and think ‘hmmm, maybe not’. So, here I’ve used Mint Macaron and Pool Party for the flower, Mint Macaron and Mossy Meadow the the leaves (it doesn’t look so odd in person!), with So Saffron for the centres and Blushing Bride for the halo around the image. I did colour some of the leaves with a light shade of Tip Top Taupe but its hard to see it in this photo

Stampin' Up! UK Birthday Blooms Card Class

The card is finished with a strip of the Desigher Series Paper, a bow of Pool Party Glitter ribbon and one of the cute bow paper clips!

Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge – Birthday Blooms

Stampin' Up! Sketch Challenge

Welcome to the second Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge of 2016! It’s Sam’s birthday today so she’s left me in charge (silly lady!) and I am hoping that her card has arrived in time, otherwise this blog post is a bit of a spoiler! So, Happy Birthday Sam!

It’s a sad sketch today actually, this weeks sketch was designed by the lovely Debbie Bradley but unfortunately she has been unable to take part in the hop 🙁 Thinking of you Debbie xx

Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge

I’ve been dreaming of this sketch; seriously, I woke up one morning this week with my card fully formed in my head! If I had had the energy to get up at 5AM and make the card that would have been awesome, but I didn’t (sleep was much more important at 5AM) and so my card isn’t the one I was dreaming of….. but its similiar

Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge - Feb 13

I’ve been designed projects for my March cardmaking class this week and so this stamp set has been open on the desk. I love colouring and I have lost count of the number of times I have watercoloured this flower, but this time I’ve used Stampin’ Write markers. The flower is coloured in Blushing Bride and Calypso Coral, and the leaves are Pear Pizzazz and Old Olive, with a outline of Basic Black. I thought fussy cutting this would take AGES but actually, once I got going with my craft knife, it didn’t take that long. One of the things I enjoy doing once I’ve fussy cut something is to colour in the edge of the card stock – I just think it makes for a nice finished edge – so after I had cut, I ran my Basic Black Stampin’ Write marker around the edge.Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge - Feb 13 - 2

This card had to have a piece of Designer Series Paper, like on most cards at the moment as I’m challenging myself to have as little Designer Series Paper left when this Annual catalogue ends in May. So this Designer Series Paper is from the Birthday Bouquet pack (LOVE!).

Seeing as this is a birthday card, I had to find a birthday sentiment that would fit – the birthday sentiment in the Birthday Blooms stamp set was just a little big – so I hunted through my stamp shelves and found this beauty from Endless Birthday Wishes. I did try stamping it and punching it out with the Washi Label punch but then it didn’t really fit. So I put on my big girl pants and stamped straight onto a card that I could have called finished! Scary, but it worked! Yay!

I hope you enjoy the rest of the hop, and don’t forget to wish Sam Johnson a very Happy Birthday when you come across her blog!

Celebrate….

Stampin' Up! UK Celebrate Suite Sayings Birthday Blooms

Over the past few months I have been trying to make cards with bright colours (trying to stave off the winter blues!) but I found myself making a monotone card last week. Does this happen to anyone else, when a project just arrives fully formed on the desk and you have no real idea how the hell it got there! It doesn’t happen often, but its wonderful when it does

Stampin' Up! UK Celebrate Suite Sayings Birthday Blooms

I spotted a card on Pinterest a few weeks ago that just used this one flower from Birthday Blooms. I have to admit that I had to go and look for the stamp, because I had completely over looked it! Shocking! I love a simple line image, and this is just perfect stamped in Early Espresso and blurred slightly with a blender pen.

You might recognise the sentiment, its from Suite Sayings (again, I know, I’m in love ok!), the stamp usually reads Celebrate You but I masked off the You with some of my trusty sticky label tape before inking in Early Espresso. I love this way of getting more out of your sentiment stamps, but y remember to remove that stick label before stamping or you may end up with an inky mess

Stampin' Up! UK Birthday Blooms monotone card

Even though the rest of the card is Early Espresso and Very Vanilla, I think the addition of the Typeset map paper matt really adds to this one. I’m still working my way through a backlog of Designer Series Paper, I do have a plan for most of it though, just got to find the time to make a heap of cards!
