TGIF #118 | Embossed Resist

TGIF Challenge Emboss Resist Thank You card using Bunch of Blossoms from Stampin' Up!

Hello!

I know you weren’t expecting a blog post on a Sunday afternoon…. but I am aiming to add weekend posts back into my blog in the very near future… and when I saw this weeks TGIF Challenge I couldn’t pass it up!

Regular visitors to my little corner of the internet will be well aware of my love for techniques, and this week TGIF challenge is one of my favourites; Embossed Resist

TGIF Challenge Emboss Resist Thank You card using Bunch of Blossoms from Stampin' Up!

The Embossed Resist technique is really simple. Stamp your image (in this case, its leaves) in Versamark ink and emboss with Clear Stampin’ Emboss Powder. Then add ink over the top… the area with the embossing powder resists the ink and stays white. Simple. I used the leaves from Bunch of Blossoms in the background, and added Old Olive ink with a sponge over the top. For some added texture I varied my usual technique of swirling ink, adding some stippled areas too.

Thank You card using Bunch of Blossoms from Stampin' Up!

The flower is also from Bunch of Blossoms and is stamped in Flirty Flamingo and Smoky Slate, then each petal is individually punched out using the Blossom Builder Punch. I don’t make this flower very often, its a bit fiddly if truth be told… but I fancied something a bit special! That and while I’ve been clearing my craftroom as part of preparations for The Big Move! I found my glue gun…. which is another must for this particular flower!

The card is finished with a trio of glitter Enamel Dots, a sentiment and a few dots of Fine Tip Glue

What is you favourite technique for card making right now?

How to…. Make a Shabby Chic card using Stampin’ Up! supplies

How To video tutorial making a shabby chic card using Awesomely Artistic from Stampin' Up!

Good morning! I hope you don’t mind that I haven’t titled this weeks video tutorial ‘Make It Monday’ …. but it just didn’t really fit this week… what do you think?

How to make a shabby chic congratulations card using Awesomely Artistic from Stampin' Up!

A few weeks ago my wonderful Stampin’ Sister Amanda earned herself a place on the Stampin’ Up! incentive trip – something I would LOVE to achieve – she has worked so hard in her 12 months as a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator, and I thought that she deserved a special Congratulations card…. and seeing as she is the Queen of YouTube, a video was also fitting!

There are a couple of stamp sets at work here…. mainly Awesomely Artistic, but the sentiment is taken from Bunch of Blossoms… and I couldn’t pass up using that fab new label punch either!

How To video tutorial making a shabby chic card using Awesomely Artistic from Stampin' Up!

I love how the smallest Stitched circle die fits this punch perfectly…. Stampin’ Up! coordination at its very best!

I hope you have enjoyed today’s card and video… Don’t forget to leave a comment and I will see you again tomorrow!

I have to say first of all, how fresh is this colour combination! Flirty Flamingo and Old Olive, with Whisper White. There are three stamp sets at work here (sorry!); Bunch of Blossoms, Rose Wonder and Playful Backgrounds. Those bubbles are stamped in Flirty Flamingo onto Flirty Flamingo card stock – loving a bit of tone on tone!

One of the many wonderful things about Stampin’ Up! is the coordination of products, and this card jut proves this again – the matching stamp and punch used to create the flower, the tone on tone stamping, the matching ink and card stock colours, and don’t start me on those In-Colour Enamel Shapes!

Bunch of Blossoms Faux Watercolour Card

Watercolour Celebration card using Faux Watercolour and Bunch of Blossoms from Stampin' Up! UK

I have had this style of card in my head for weeks, but somehow getting the card out of my head and into the card stock was a bit of a struggle! I love following other Stampin’ Up! demonstrators, and find them so inspiring. This card was inspired by a couple of different demo’s, but mostly the lovely Dena from The Creativity Cave and the fabulous Faux Watercolour technique!Watercolour Celebration card using Faux Watercolour and Bunch of Blossoms from Stampin' Up! UKFor all this card looks totally different from my usual card bases, it actually comes from the same size of card stock – just scored on the short edge rather than the long one.

The key to this card really is Watercolour Paper. The Pink Pirouette layer of watercolour is put down first using an aqua-painter. I added several layers of colour, building up the intensity of the colour to the point where I was happy, and to create those pretty ‘hard edges’ I love when watercolouring.

Watercolour Bunch of Blossoms congratulations card using Stampin' Up! UK products

The leaves from the Bunch of Blossoms stamp set includes a couple of different sizes of leaves, this card uses the smaller leaf. Each leave is stamped into the Watercolour paper in Old Olive (making sure the Pink Pirouette layer is completely dry!). Before the Old Olive dries I ran an Aqua-Painter over the stamped image, this creates a Faux Watercolour, and a softer look than the original hard stamping.

I tried a couple of different ways of adding the sentiment, but settled on stamping and heat embossing with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder.

The card is finished with one of my favourite go-to finishing technique, droplets of Fine-Tip glue, so pretty!

Measurements:

Card base: 21 x 14.8 cm, scored on the short edge at 7.4 cm

Old Olive layer: 19.5 x 6 cm

Watercolour Paper: 19 x 5.5 cm

Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge | July 2016

Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge featuring Crazy About You Gorgeous Grunge Bunch of Blossoms From Stampin' Up! UK

Stampin' Up! Sketch Challenge

Hello! Welcome to another Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge! This sketch has been sat on my desk for a couple of weeks, but only in the last few days have I actually managed to create something! I love sketches like that, really thinkers, thanks Louise!

Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge Sketch July 2016

I have to admit that I have moved things around a bit on this one, but the sketch was definitely my ‘jumping off point!’

Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge featuring Crazy About You Gorgeous Grunge Bunch of Blossoms From Stampin' Up! UK

This week I received one of the new Ombre Ink Pads from my gorgeous team leader, and this weeks sketch challenge just seemed like the perfect opportunity to use it! The flower is taken from Crazy About You and is stamped in Rich Razzleberry Ombre – there are a couple of important things to remember when using the new Ombre pads

  • Larger, and more solid images work best
  • take the stamp to the pad to ink it up, gently tap the stamp to the pad repeatily in a circle pattern to ensure that you don’t end up with a stripy image. There is a great video on the Stampin’ Up! YouTube channel that I will post to my Facebook page later on.
  • There are 3 great colours available; Rich Razzleberry, Bermuda Bay and Calypso Coral

Simply Sketched Saturday Challenge July 2016 Featuring Crazy about you from Stampin' Up!The horizontal and vertical elements of the sketch were the trickiest bit for me, but I never need an excuse to grab Gorgeous Grunge off the shelf!

The leaves are taken from the Bunch of Blossoms stamp set. Stamped in Cucumber Crush onto Cucumber Crush Card stock and fussy cut. The card is finished with the sentiment heat embossed in Copper and some loops of the Copper Metallic Thread.

Today is a Perfect Day …

Perfect Day Wedding Congratulations card using Bunch of Blossoms from Stampin' Up! UK

Ok, so, it may be raining (or not, I’m writing this in advance as usual!) but I have the Perfect congratulations card for you today!

I am just loving the new Bunch of Blossoms stamp set and coordinating punch. I have mentioned this many many times but one of the things that made me fall in LOVE with Stampin’ Up! is the coordinating products; the stamps with matching dies and punches, the sentiments that fit perfectly into the punches, the ribbon / embellishments / card stock / Designer Series Paper that match the ink colours. Fabulous! And this card is one of those that uses a Stamp / Punch bundle

Perfect Day Wedding Congratulations card using Bunch of Blossoms from Stampin' Up! UKThis great stamp set not only has a coordinating punch, but uses 2-step stamping to create this pretty faux-watercolour look. I’m a sucker for a good technique, and as you know I LOVE watercolour, but having stamps to do all the hard work for you is simply awesome!

Here I have stamped the flowers in Blushing Bride and Flirty Flamingo, while the leaves are Pear Pizzazz and Old Olive.

Punch Stamp Bunch of Blossoms Stampin' Up! UKI think that my favourite part of this card though is the heat embossed sentiment on Vellum. This soft look is created by stamping with Smoky Slate onto the Vellum, and because the ink dries very slowly on the Vellum you have time to add clear embossing powder and heat setting it! So pretty
