Happy Birthday Husband

Stampin' Up! UK Mans birthday card Guy Greetings

It was James’ birthday on Good Friday, but what with the end of Sale-a-bration rearing its head I didn’t get around to posting the card until now.

James is always very supportive of my card making, but I think he gets a little nervous when it comes time for me to make a card for him. James is a manly sort of bloky sort of fellow, he doesn’t do flowers or pink or ribbon or anything remotely feminine at all (I am solely responsible for anything remotely ‘homely’ in our house, he would have a sofa and a fridge and a TV and call it home!) so cards aren’t really something he would spend time or effort in choosing, let along making for anyone!

I love creating super simple cards for James. He has started to make cards for me (just because he knows I like a handmade card) and always goes to town on ink blending and punches, he actually bought his own card blanks because he was too scared to touch my card stock (rightly so!). So, when it comes to make a card for James I like to keep things simple, in the hope that one day he might calm down on the ink and punches!

Anyway, this card features the stamp set Guy Greetings and Going Places Designer Series Paper. I love the travel theme of this paper, its a full stack of 6 x 6 papers printed with maps and street plans, along with some great marble type prints – all of which are great for guys.

‘Husband’ fits perfectly into the Washi Label punch, while I grabbed my Circle collection framelits and my big shot for the anchor. Both stamps are from Guy Greetings and are stamped in Lost Lagoon. I remember a few years ago watching Shimelle Lane on YouTube create these great Scrapbook layouts using masses of Patterned Paper and she ALWAYS inked the edges to get the to ‘go together’ and I thought I would use the same technique here, so once I had all my pieces I grabbed out my Sahara Sand ink and a sponge and inked all the papers – I love the effect

Even James said it loved it!

Success at last

Rose Wonder

Stampin' Up! UK Rose wonder birthday card

I’ve recently volunteered to make the birthday cards for the residents in the nursing home where I work. We have up to 69 residents at one time, so I probably should get cracking! There are also a heap of family birthdays in January, so you may well be seeing a whole heap of birthday cards on the blog in the coming weeks!

Stampin' Up! UK Rose Wonder

I am loving the Rose Wonder stamp and die bundle! The dies are so pretty and delicate, and the stamp set includes a host of really handy sentiments including birthday, wedding, and sympathy.

The Rose is totally the star of this card – to create this particular rose I die cut the flower from Lost Lagoon card stock and a matching piece of Designer Series Paper from the Going Places stack. I did the same with the leaves, using Mossy Meadow card stock and a similar piece of Designer Series Paper. I have been experimenting with adhesives to stick these dies down, I’m not normally a wet glue gal, however, I love using Tombow or the 2-way glue pen on these die cuts. I stuck the rose down to a piece of Very Vanilla card stock, and then inlaid the die cut pieces of the Designer Series Paper. This allowed me to fussy cut the rose and pop the whole thing up onto dimensionals. The leaves are stuck directly onto the Very Vanilla card front.

The strange patterns on the card stock of the rose was a bit of a mistake, but by the time I had got the rose assembled I wasn’t about to start again! Once I had stuck all the pieces stuck I ran the Rose back through my Big Shot, this proved to be a mistake, as my rather battered big shot plates embossed their marks into my rose! oops!

The card was just a little plan, and so I added some Delightful Dijon ink onto the Very Vanilla card front with a sponge.

You are my greatest adventure….

I’m sure that no one except me is already thinking about Valentines day…. It’s not something we particularly celebrate (one of us is usually at work! and I am NOT paying all that money just to have dinner out!) but we do give each other a card.

Going Places valentines

Manly looking Valentines are hard though, really hard! But this year it is a little easier thanks to Stampin’ Up! and the Going Global stamp set and Going Places Designer Series Paper. I’m loving the current selection of Designer Series Papers, Did you know that if you join my team during Sale-a-bration I will send you a 6 x 6 pack of Designer Series Paper for free!

This card uses a couple of punches; the Sweetheart punch coordinates with the stamp from Going Global, while the 3 smaller hearts are from the Itty Bitty Accents punch pack.
